COMMENTS
HTML
We will study the nature of HTML publishing through
"hands-on" coding, learning how to design for this
admittedly impoverished medium, learning its limits
and how to work within them to maximum effect.
We will strive to produce clean and efficient HTML.
We will learn to read and analyze others' HTML,
including the decisions made by WYSIWIG editors.
Because the web is an evolving medium, we need
the tools for future development, the resources for
future research needs.
FLASH
We will begin with the metaphors of movies and animation
that inform the GUI, and find out where they break-down.
The work will be time-based, sequential, but not strictly
predetermined, not unfolding in the same way everytime.
We will explore the meanings and possibilities of the
non-linear and interactive.

This class will emphasize the scripting language of Flash 5,
ActionScript, which offers an "easy" entry into the world of
scripting. We will explore this powerful dimension, find what
is unique about scripted media, and how to exploit its
affordances.
